RepubliCon Governance in action: 118th Congress, Speaker of the House edition

Vegging on a day off, watching the House's majority party fail to elect a Speaker on the first ballot, for the first time since (checks Wikipedia) 1923 (100 years ago) - the ONLY time that happened in the 20th Century. The GOP's clown car "governance" is bad for America, but that was already a given . . . mostly today is just a bad day for the GOoPers, and I'm here for it. The GOP is currently at 10 defections from McCarthy, in the first vote.

UPDATE: VOTE THE THIRD

The vote for the Speaker of the House begins AGAIN and for the third time, we're only at the 'B' last names alphabetically, and it's already clear that McCarthy won't get to 218. Force-of-Nature and Brooklyn-based Rep. Hakeem Jefferies (D-NY) will again get the most votes, but "it’s one more election in America where the person with the most votes doesn’t win." Sex Assault Cover-Upper and Obvious Liar Jim Jordan - R-OH is saying he doesn't even want the speakership, and himself voted for McCarthy, but the GOoPer bomb-throwers in the House keep nominating him anyway, because "We'll show that Kevin McCarthy." There's no need to dwell overmuch on the logistical fact that even 203 votes is way closer to 218 than the mere 19 that Jim Jordan, who - again - says he does not want to be speaker, received last go-round. This isn't about governing, or winning elections, or policies or any of that stupid stuff. This is about grandstanding for an exclusively far-right audience. They're not trying to "elect some Speaker of the House," or whatever. Not their bag.
