I am very concerned!

Oh dear.

Oh dear dear dear dear dear.

It appears that things are not going very well for the RepubliCons these days, and I am concerned about the future of the party. The GOoPers have had their asses kicked mightily, publicly, and with extreme prejudice. Barack Obama, the supposed socialist Islamo-terrorist, has won the Presidency, and won big . . . . like really by a lot. In so doing, President-elect Obama flipped New Mexico, Iowa, Colorado, Nevada, Virginia, Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, and Indiana . . . listed in the order of believability. (North Carolina and Indiana for God's sake!!!) He even eked out a victory for one of NEBRASKA'S electoral votes - which are apportioned by Congressional districts, rather than statewide. Obama won by over almost 200 electoral votes!!! This awesome chart from American hero Markos Moulitsas Zuniga (Kos at Daily Kos) shows that Democrats improved their standing in all but six states: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and West Virgina. They improved their standing by DOUBLE DIGIT percentages in a whopping 26 states. That's more than half, folks.

The votes are still being counted in Alaska, Georgia, and Minnesota, but the Senate will sport at least 57 Democrats next Congress, and although it's unlikely, that number could conceivably rise to 60 - a filibuster-proof majority. (Whither Lieberman? We'll see . . .) The House has similarly added more Democratic seats - 21 so far, with more votes to count. Democratic governors replaced Republicans in Missouri, and in North Carolina. To put it mildly, the Obama/Democratic juggernaut has shellacked, de-pantsed, and pile-driven the Republicans nationally, regionally, and locally. It was a cosmic smackdown. Seeking to gather up its genitals from a bloody concrete floor, the so-called Grand Old Party is looking way less Grand, and way more Old.

I am very worried about the future of the GOoP, and this leads me to the thrust of my posting here.

For most of my adult life, I have had to listen to Wrong Wing bloviators' insipid "concern trolling" about how best to fix the Democratic Party. Republicans were never more annoying, more disingenuous, and more despicable than when they were offering their horse-shit "advice" on how the progressive movement could get it together to win elections. On-line, on TV, and on the radio, these loveless bastards have made entire careers of telling Democrats, liberals & progressives how to turn those frowns upside-down:
"Well gosh, if you'd just tack more the Right, if you'd just be more like us, if you'd just forget every shred of human decency and responsibility your parents tried to instill within you, you 'libs' would win more!! Real Americans agree with the far right on EVERYTHING! Be like us, and you'll win!!!"
It was horse-shit of course, but sadly, for many years in the '90's and early 00's, Democratic leaders made the horrendous mistake of LISTENING to these scumbags. And rather than trying to beat these venal assholes, a major chunk of the party leadership was content to simply JOIN THEM!!!

Well now the tables have turned, and as the Republicans are trying to wash the blood and feces out of their electoral hair, I would like to offer our Wrong Wing friends some very good advice. And actually, they don't have to worry that this is coming from a progressive "concern troll."

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Tony Perkins*, the head of the execrable far right Family Research Council:
Moderates to blame for GOP losses, conservative leader says

(CNN) -- A conservative leader Friday laid the Republican Party's poor showing at the polls at the feet of moderates who, he argues, led the party away from its core principles. Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council told CNN that conservatives need to take back control of the GOP if the party is to return to its winning ways.

"Moderates never beat conservatives. We've seen that in past elections," he said.

Rejecting suggestions that the conservative movement was viewed as being out of touch with the electorate, Perkins says the Republican Party needs to go back to basics.

"It's a return to fundamental conservative principles that Ronald Reagan showed work and that people can be attracted to," Perkins said.
In effect, this genius believes that the reason the GOoPers lost on 11/4 was because THEY WEREN'T CONSERVATIVE ENOUGH!!! As a fire-breathing progressive and nominal Democrat, I like this analysis and think that Mr. Perkins is dead right.

I am concerned about the future of the GOP, and I think Republicans will find themselves in MUCH better straights if they follow Perkins' advice. Go further to the Right! That's the real problem for the 'Cons! Start quoting Mein Kampf for god sakes! That will lead to real electoral success in "real America!" Don't take my word for it, GOoPers, listen to the sage words of your very own Tony Perkins!!!!
